Blog Post #7:Who Are Your Role Models...and Why?
I was compelled to write on this subject because it is crucial in my opinion, to say the least. Okay, so I am sure that you have people that you look up to in your life and then there are maybe those who have profoundly impacted your life, but you don't know them intimately. Have you ever asked yourself why exactly you look up to these people? What qualities do they have that you admire? What kind of lives do they live, what is it that you find interesting and attracts you to them? I am talking about the qualities that make people, people, and that differentiate us from the other species of animals on this planet. Great people who have made profound impacts upon society, whether it be big or small, gutsy people who don't settle for mediocrity and average, and have changed peoples lives for the better. Those people that stand up for something in their lives, or stand up for others. People who are insanely good at their life's work and do the hard tasks day in and day out to get there, whether that is being a phenomenal mother, or an astronaut.
I have a handful of people that I look up to and admire. I call them my "board of mentors". Most of them I have never met, but have read every book they have published, invested the time into studying them (for years), and listened to everything that I can find on YouTube that even remotely mentions these people or has them in it. Here are a few on my list. The names are in no particular order of best liked.
Tim Ferriss
Napolean Hill
Elon Musk
My grandfather
My best friend
Another good friend
Dr. Jordan Peterson
My grandmother
Tony Robbins
A former Boss (Commander)
If you don't have a "board of mentors" I would highly suggest that you find at least a few, and figure out what is it that you actually admire about these people (nothing surface level). My list is actually much longer, but I wanted to keep it short for ya. Why do I call them my "board of mentors", because those are the people that I look up to and take advice from. I am pretty selective about whom I seek or take advice from. I have spent so much time reading and getting to understand my "board of mentors" that I have truly come to trust them. This might seem irrational, but to me it seems irrational to take advice from someone you don't fully respect, admire, and think is a dope ass person. How do you take advice from someone you don't actually talk to personally? You read their literature, you study their work ethic, you see what qualities that they have that you want to emulate. Essentially you are taking their advice when you choose to listen and adopt their way (s) of thinking, or their way of doing even one small task. It is mind blowing how much influence the people in our lives have on us. If this is the case, why not ensure that we have positive influences, and look up to those people who have qualities that you admire and strive to emulate. Nobody out there has all awesome qualities, that is why you need more than a few on your board, pick and choose what qualities that you like about each person and why, and then keep them close...whether through books or communication. Tim Ferriss (one of mentors) wrote a book called, Tribe of Mentors. This book is over 700 pages long with nothing but interviews from people that have made an impact in this world. He interviews them and asks deep, meaningful questions and tells stories from points of view of people that have been there and done that, first hand. Great book, and if you read it you will also get to see that they are all truly brilliant weirdos. Haha! I have linked the book below.
How about my 'Merica little photo shoot above? Yeeesss! I love anything patriotic. I also really like the sandals that I am wearing. They are so comfy. I call them my Jesus sandals now. I got them at Kohl's this weekend along with my shirt, and a bunch of workout clothes for more training videos! I hope you all have a great week.
Be Beautiful. Be Brave.
XOXO,
