3 Qualities of an Empathetic Realist (Spiritual Gangster)
3 Qualities of an Empathetic Realist (Spiritual Gangster)
Human Error. Realize that everyone is weird, complicated, and at times unpredictable. Everyone has different experiences and environments that have shaped their identity and life trajectory, which means we all have something unique to bring to the party of life, but that also means there is no universal answer to anything that involves humans and their actions or lack thereof. Let us stop painting pretty pictures of how we would like people to be and start seeing people for who they really are. The truth does hurt, but not as bad as being betrayed by someone you thought you knew.
2. Relatability. Most of the time people just want to be understood. Instead of making fun of someone or shaming them for their mistakes, perhaps we should share our mistakes too or at least seek to understand and empathize. This doesn’t mean that we need to engage in pity parties but rather to show we are all mistake making beings looking to connect and be understood.
3. Authenticity. As I grow older and become a bit more educated and aware, the easier it is for me to see that nobody really has anything completely figured out. Why do we pretend like we do? If your social media feed is just a bunch of perfect pictures and movie reels of an American dream, free of hardship or moments of struggle, well let’s just say most people aren’t buying it. People want authenticity. Being authentic is what connects us as human beings. Authenticity allows for more authenticity from others, and adds your unique value. I’m not saying we need to be depressing sob stories or hardcore arguing activists, but teach something that you’ve learned from your flaws or failures! Help people learn and grow through your own journey. BE BRAVE. Transparency about being human is a necessity in cultivating real connection. Everything else is fake.
BE BEAUTIFUL. BE BRAVE.
