The Creative Flow State

The Creative Flow State

I would say that I am a super analytical person. I analyze…A LOT, and like with anything in life it can be an asset and it can be detrimental if I over analyze everything. I am working on narrowing down the things in my life that are worth deconstructing and analyzing and those things that will end in self sabotage from over analyzing. One thing I personally have taken interest in analyzing is the concept of “flow”. Flow is when you are in a state of total enjoyment. You lose track of time and are unconcerned with what is going on around you, what’s happening on social media or your phone and you are just totally engulfed in the moment. Your attention is focused on the task at hand and it feels effortless.

When I write I go into my own little flow zone and i’m able to continue to write without distraction and it feels effortless. This same thing happens when I am working out (not so much running or cardio), but conditioning, strength training, yoga, and dance. It is easy for an hour to fly by while I am at a yoga class or at the gym in my own little world. I also lose track of time and fee like a creative child (I act like one too) when I am engaged in a photo shoot. I love the beauty that can be captured in almost any setting. It may seem like I like to have photo shoots because I am so into myself, but I actually see beauty in the entire process how the lighting, angles, scenery, and mood can be captured in one moment. I love putting together a shoot (not the actual photography) and capturing a certain essence and mood. This blog is something that is dear to my heart because it is something I really enjoy. If someone reads this and learns something or begins to analyze and look at their lives a little different, then great, but even if nobody read it I would still enjoy the writing, the pictures, the creative flow process….

I do think that if we slowly made an effort to pay attention to these creative flow states, we could then replicate and be able to produce more engagement in the actual living of our lives. Something to think about…
